We repair scratches, loose joints, worn veneer and dull finishes on tables, chairs and cabinets. Founded in 2020, our team of 9 has completed 1153 jobs across 3 Manchester districts. Send a request and we usually reply within 2 hours.
Sixaxe started in 2020 as a small workshop in Manchester, set up by a handful of cabinet makers and finishers who were tired of seeing decent furniture thrown out because a scratch or a wobbly leg seemed too much bother to fix. Six years on, the team has grown to nine people, and we have worked on 1,153 pieces for 702 clients across the three districts we cover around Manchester.
Our job is straightforward: repair what is broken, strip and refinish what has faded, and bring old joints back to a solid state. We are not trying to make every piece look brand new — sometimes a client wants the original character kept, scars and all. Sometimes they want a full French polish finish. Either way, the aim is furniture that holds up and looks right in the room it belongs to.
Sixaxe has completed 1153 restoration jobs across 3 districts of Manchester since 2020. Below are the 6 services we offer, each priced by the work involved rather than a flat rate.
We fix loose joints, cracked legs and broken frames on chairs, tables and cabinets using wood glue, dowels and clamps matched to the original construction method.
From £45Traditional shellac application built up in thin coats to restore depth and shine on antique tables, sideboards and piano cases without hiding the wood grain.
From £120Colour matching and even staining for replaced panels or worn surfaces, using oil-based stains tested on scrap wood first so the tone blends with existing finish.
From £65A final coat of beeswax or hard wax oil applied by hand to seal the surface, reduce moisture damage and bring back a soft, natural sheen on daily-use furniture.
From £35Removal of old fabric, foam replacement where needed, and re-covering of seat pads and backs on chairs and sofas, matched to the frame's restored finish.
From £90Pickup and drop-off across the 3 Manchester districts we cover, with padded blankets and secure strapping so the piece arrives at our workshop and back home undamaged.
From £25Since 2020 we have completed 1,153 restoration jobs for 702 clients across Manchester. Here is what sets our workshop apart.
Every piece is stripped, sanded and re-polished by hand using shellac and hard wax oil rather than spray lacquer. This keeps the original grain visible and avoids the plastic-like sheen common with factory refinishing.
Send us photos of the damage and you will typically hear back within 2 hours with a rough estimate. No waiting a week for a callback before you even know if the job is worth doing.
Nine people work across our six services, from joint repair to French polishing. The same faces return year after year, so the workshop stays consistent rather than relying on rotating contractors.
We collect and deliver across three districts in and around Manchester, including Palatine Road where our workshop is based. No need to ship furniture across the country and hope it arrives in one piece.
142 clients have come back to us for a second piece of furniture, whether it is a matching chair or a family heirloom found years later. That says more about the work than any slogan could.
Before any work starts, you get a written quote listing materials, expected drying time and total cost. No verbal estimates that change once the piece is already stripped down.
Nine reviews from people who brought us tables, chairs and cabinets over the past few years. We do not edit these, good or middling.
Our oak dining table had a deep water stain right in the middle, the kind you cover with a placemat for ten years and pretend isn't there. Sixaxe stripped the top back, re-stained it and applied a hard wax oil finish. You genuinely cannot find the spot now, even with the light hitting it side-on. Took eight working days, which matched what they quoted.
Good job on my grandmother's writing desk. The veneer repair on the left drawer front is barely visible. One panel came back a shade darker than the rest after polishing, so I asked them to even it out and they did on a second visit at no extra charge.
Quick reply, clear quote, no pressure. Had a reply to my enquiry within the hour.
We run a small bed and breakfast near the city centre and needed six chairs re-polished before a busy weekend. I called on a Tuesday, they picked the chairs up Wednesday morning and had them back, French polished and re-glued where two legs were loose, by Friday afternoon. Guests actually commented on them. Fair price for the turnaround given how tight our deadline was.
The restoration itself was solid, the wardrobe doors close properly now and the finish is even. Communication was a bit slow in the middle of the job, I had to chase for an update after about ten days of silence. Once I called they explained the delay and finished within the week. Would still use them again but expected a heads up sooner.
Honestly didn't expect much for the price quoted, but the chest of drawers came back looking better than when we bought it secondhand eleven years ago. Worth every penny.
Sideboard repair went well overall. The wood filler used on one corner is slightly visible under direct lamp light, though from a normal viewing distance you would not notice. Staff explained the process clearly before starting, which I appreciated since I had no idea what French polishing actually involved.
Brought in a rocking chair that had been in the shed for years, half the joints loose and the finish gone grey. They re-glued the frame, replaced two spindles and re-oiled the whole thing. It rocks properly again and looks like something you'd actually want in the living room.
Second time using them, this time for a set of dining chairs that match a table they restored for us two years back. Consistent finish across both jobs, which mattered to us more than anything else. Straightforward booking, straightforward collection.
Tell us about your piece and we will get back to you, usually within 2 hours during working days.
